Join Get Ready Weekend 2026 on Saturday 19 September, and Sunday 20 September, across New South Wales.
Get Ready Weekend, hosted by the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), offers free information and resources. It helps communities understand bush fire risks. You can learn simple ways to protect your homes, properties, and loved ones before the fire season starts.
Residents can join a Get Ready Weekend event nearest to you. You'll learn about bushfire preparedness and get practical tips to reduce risks around their property.
Many events will have demonstrations, displays, and fun activities for families. You can get advice on how to create a Bush Fire Survival Plan. Learn how to prepare your home and property. Understand the Australian Fire Danger Rating System and know what to do when the bushfire risk goes up.
Georges River Council Mayor Elise Borg encouraged residents to take the opportunity to get prepared ahead of the fire season.
"While Georges River is an urban area, bush fires can still pose a risk to residents living near bushland reserves. Getting ready early can really help protect your family, home, and property," said Mayor Borg.
"Get Ready Weekend is a chance for residents to talk with NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers. You can learn about local bush fire risks and make a plan before the season begins."
