Bushwalker rescue operation in Lithgow

Police, NSW Ambulance and Lithgow Volunteer Rescue Association (VRA) are today working to retrieve three bushwalkers missing in Lithgow overnight, NSW Police say.

About 6.45pm (Saturday 7 July 2018) an EPIRB (Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon) was activated in the vicinity of Tiger Snake Canyon, Newnes Plateau, near Lithgow.

The EPIRB was registered to a man from a Canberra address, who advised emergency services his daughter, another woman and a man, all aged 28, had taken it during a hike in the Tiger Snake Canyon.

A search resumed today at 7.30am (Sunday 8 July 2018) involving Polair and air ambulance.

About 10am police and air ambulance located the three missing bushwalkers. They have since been winched to safety.

The bushwalkers are currently being assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics.

A command post has been established at Newnes Plateau with Chifley Police District officers co-ordinating the rescue effort.
