Bushwalkers Activate EPRIB At Leven Canyon, TAS

At 1145hrs on Saturday 25 February 2017, police were notified by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) of an EPIRB activation in the vicinity of Leven Canyon.  It was established a group of eight experienced bushwalkers from Victoria were completing the Penguin to Cradle Trail, via Leven Canyon and one of them suffered a head injury, Tasmania Police say.

The Westpac Police Rescue Helicopter was deployed to the scene and collected the injured man.  He was transported to the Launceston General Hospital for medical treatment.

The bushwalkers were experienced and were well equipped for their venture.  Police would like to praise the group for carrying the locator beacon and remind others of their importance when undertaking similar activities.
