Butler blunders once again

Elise Archer,Minister for Workplace Safety and Consumer Affairs

Jen Butler's latest blundering media release - this time on fuel prices - is either woefully ignorant, or an attempt to deliberately mislead Tasmanians.

As Ms Butler should know, and as acknowledged by the RACT, fuel prices are on the rise due to significant global issues impacting the entire country. Even worse, Ms Butler refers to national ABS data, not Tasmanian-specific, which is just the latest in a long line of embarrassing blunders from a shadow Minister completely out of her depth.

Ms Butler also fails to mention that the cost of living for Hobart grew at the lowest in the country in the September quarter, at just 0.3 per cent, significantly lower than national growth of 0.8 per cent.

The Tasmanian Government remains committed to reducing the cost of living for all Tasmanians, including fuel pricing, and we have taken action to provide clarity on fuel price information through our Fuel Check TAS app.

This is delivering a more transparent and competitive retail fuel industry, helping Tasmanian motorists find the cheapest fuel in their area in real-time.

However, our Government has made it clear that should further action be required to support Tasmanians to access cheaper fuel prices, including the introduction of legislation, we will consider it.

This stands in stark contrast to Labor, who do nothing but whinge and complain about everything while offering no solutions or plan of their own.
