Byron Shire tourism businesses have once again demonstrated why the region is one of Australia's most sought-after destinations, taking home seven awards at the 2026 North Coast Regional Tourism Awards in Coffs Harbour this month.
The impressive results include three Gold Awards, three Silver Awards, one Bronze Award and recognition as a finalist across a range of tourism categories.
Mayor Sarah Ndiaye, who attended the awards gala, said the achievements reflected the passion and innovation of Byron Shire's tourism sector.
"These awards celebrate the special experiences that keep people coming back and continue to make Byron Shire a world-class destination," Mayor Ndiaye said.
"A huge congratulations to our Gold Award winners, Crystalbrook Byron, which secured top honours in both the Business Event Venues and 5 Star Accommodation categories, and Better By Bike for its inspired e-bike tourism experiences.
"Congratulations also to our Silver Award winners, Vision Walks and Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens for Excellence in Accessible Tourism. Crystal Castle and Shambhala Gardens also received a Bronze Award in the Tourist Attractions category.
"These businesses showcase the diversity of experiences available across our region, from nature-based adventures and wellness attractions to premium accommodation and sustainable visitor experiences."
Mayor Ndiaye said the awards were testament to the strength of the Byron Shire visitor economy and the people who drive it.
"My heartfelt thanks go to all of our tourism and events operators who have worked tirelessly through years of challenges and uncertainty and continue to adapt and thrive.
"Tourism is a key component of the Byron Shire economy, supporting local jobs, businesses and communities. With around 1.9 million visitors to the Shire over the past 12 months, we are incredibly proud of the people and businesses creating memorable experiences for visitors all while encouraging care and respect for our precious environment.
"Congratulations to all finalists and winners from Byron Shire and across the North Coast," the Mayor said.
Co-presented by Destination North Coast and the NSW Tourism Association, the 2026 North Coast Regional Tourism Awards recognised 49 finalists across 17 categories.
Winners and finalists from the regional awards will now progress to the NSW Tourism Awards in November, with the opportunity to represent New South Wales at the Australian Tourism Awards in 2027.
