Calamity of errors in Highett

Moorabbin Highway Patrol officers were left shaking their heads by an unlicensed duo in Highett yesterday afternoon, Victoria Police say.

Police intercepted a vehicle on Karen Street about 5.35pm.

It was discovered the driver, a 54-year-old woman from Springvale, had a suspended licence and her car was immediately impounded for 30 days at a cost of $932.

A 22-year-old, also from Springvale, was called to come and collect her.

This woman, who raised eyebrows when she allegedly disobeyed a no U-turn sign in front of police, was also driving on a suspended licence.

Both women are expected to be charged on summons.

The intercepts form part of Operation Regal, a statewide focus on road user behaviour and awareness around the importance of taking responsibility for your own actions on the road.

The operation which started on Friday at 12.01am will finish on Monday 12 June at 11.59pm.

Police will target the main causes of fatalities and serious injuries which include; speed, driver distraction, drivers not wearing their seatbelts, fatigue and drink and drug drivers.
