Call for organisations to help grow female sport in Tasmania

Jacquie Petrusma,Minister for Sport and Recreation

Playing sport is key to establishing lifelong healthy habits, and has a range of individual and social benefits, including improving physical and mental health, fostering social skills, and developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Our $10 million Levelling the Playing Field commitment for women's and girls' sport facilities is by far the largest investment per capita by any state or territory government, and it shows the Hodgman Liberal Government's proud commitment to women's sport.

The second round of Expressions of Interest for the Levelling the Playing Field grants program close today, and we encourage any local government or sporting organisation wanting to boost female participation to lodge an application.

The first round of the investment program has been incredibly successful, with 21 organisations from across the state successful in receiving funding.

Providing greater opportunities for women and girls is a key priority for the Government, which is why we want to grow female participation in Tasmanian sport.
