Calls for Mitchell Shire to dob in a dumper

Mitchell Shire Council is calling on community to provide any information on a large roadside rubbish dump on Beveridge Road, near Minton Street, Beveridge.

Materials were a mix of industrial and household waste, with initial investigations suggesting the rubbish pile had come from outside the shire.

Such was the extent of materials Council staff needed a dump truck and skid steer to clear the area.

Dumping is a blight on our community and is illegal, with major penalties for those prosecuted. Council has received more than 200 requests in relation to illegal dumping with thousands of dollars spent on clearing materials - a cost our community has to cover.

Dumped materials can also pose health and environmental risks across the community and natural environment.

While Council makes all efforts to investigate illegal dumping, unfortunately, it is very difficult to prosecute but we do pursue this avenue wherever possible. In this case, some evidence has been left and a line of inquiry is proceeding.

If you have any information, please call Council on (03) 5734 6200. People can also report illegal rubbish dumping to EPA Victoria by calling 1300 372 842 (1300 EPA VIC).
