The historic and ever popular Greek cheese originally made with goat or sheep’s milk is now available marinated with camel’s milk.
It is the latest unique product being marketed nationally as The Camel Milk Co. Australia, continues to expand its operations to satisfy burgeoning demand.
Camel milk products are now available through outlets including Delicous Dairies in Sydney, Metro Milk in Melbourne and WOW Fresh in Perth as well as specialist health food shops across Australia.
The expansion has enabled a price reduction in camel milk to around $10 a litre as it proves increasingly popular with people with allergies, gym and health enthusiasts, in fact anyone who just love the unique taste.
The advantages of camel milk include being much lower in fat and lactose than traditional milk but with higher protein and an outstanding source of calcium and magnesium.
Many consumers also believe that camel milk products address various allergies and skin complaints.
From its herd of 250 camels on a 200 hectares property near Kyabram in central Victoria the company is meeting the increasing demand for camel milk as an alternative to traditional milk.
Apart from fresh camel milk its freeze dried powder is also available in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney as well as Thailand, Singapore and China.
The company managed by Megan Williams and her husband Chris, was the first in Australia licensed to process and sell camel milk for human consumption.
They are leading this new industry in establishing national standards for production and processing of camel milk, which they say, will be among the most stringent in the world when introduced.
