Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Alfred Mutua, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.

During the meeting, Minister Ng reiterated Canada's commitment to expanding and diversifying trade throughout Africa under its upcoming Canada-Africa Economic Cooperation Strategy. She also underscored the potential benefit to both Canadian and Kenyan enterprises from exploring shared priority sectors such as clean technology and climate change, the blue economy, mining and education.

Minister Ng and Cabinet Secretary Mutua also discussed their collaboration in the Ottawa Group to advance World Trade Organization (WTO) reform and ensure a more inclusive and accessible WTO. The ministers expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming Trade Policy Dialogue between Canada and the African Union Commission to increase economic cooperation and strengthen trade relationships between partners in Canada and Africa.

Plans to launch public consultations for input on the Canada-Africa Economic Cooperation Strategy are well under way and demonstrate Canada's desire to expand trade across the African continent to the benefit of Canadians and Africans alike.
