The netball courts at Truemans Road Reserve in Capel Sound have been given a new lease of life - and a greener one at that. A first for Australia, the courts have been resurfaced using an innovative product that incorporates recycled household paint into its base layer, with 22 per cent of that layer made up of paint diverted from household waste streams.
The project marks a significant milestone for sustainable sports infrastructure in the country, combining environmental responsibility with the high-performance demands of competitive play.
Before a decision was made to use this new product, it went through vigorous testing, and it came back three times stronger than the alternative product.
The new surface has also been well received by players, with improved grip underfoot a big hit.
The six netball courts at Truemans Road Reserve are shared by four local clubs - Sorrento, Rye, Capel Sound Tootgarook, and Rosebud Netball Clubs - meaning these upgrades will benefit a wide community of players, coaches, and supporters.
The project sets a precedent for sports facilities across the country, showing that infrastructure upgrades can be both world-class and environmentally conscious.
