Car in the water off Garden Island, SA

A man has been reported for traffic offences after his car was found in the water off Garden Island this morning, according to SA Police.

Witnesses reported a vehicle being driven into the water at the Garden Island boat ramp just before 7am on Saturday 31 December and provided a description of a man seen leaving the area.

Traffic patrols quickly responded and located a man fitting that description on the Grand Trunkway, near Garden Island Road.

Police checks revealed he was the registered owner of the car, which was now fully submerged in the water.

The 41-year-old Hectorville man was reported for driving while unregistered, uninsured and with an expired licence. He was also reported for drink driving after recording a blood alcohol reading of 0.119.

He was disqualified from obtaining a driver's licence for six months and will be summonsed to appear in court.
