Car on fire, learner-driver charged, in Maroubra

A learner-driver has been charged following a single-vehicle crash in Maroubra overnight, NSW Police say.

Shortly after 9.30pm (Friday 27 April 2018) a grey Nissan X-Trail while travelling on Minneapolis Crescent, has lost control and collided with a brick fence of a home and a power pole.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, and his passengers escaped injury after the car caught on fire.

Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended and commenced investigations.

The 20-year-old man was issued with a field court attendance notice for the following offences: learner not accompanied by driver, learner driver not display "L" plates as prescribed and negligent driving.

He is due to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 13 June 2018.
