Police have arrested and charged a 21-year-old man after he allegedly stole two vehicles in Toowoomba this morning (February 18).
Initial investigations indicate that just before 6am a stolen 2010 black Ford Falcon allegedly ran a red traffic light, side swiping a stationary white van, and narrowly avoided colliding with a truck turning right, at the intersection of the Warrego Highway and Nass Road.
The stolen vehicle came to a stop just past the intersection, on the highway, with the male driver and sole occupant, running through traffic for several minutes, before returning to the vehicle.
He then approached the white van and allegedly following a brief scuffle, drove off in it.
He travelled a short distance, including at one point allegedly on the wrong side of the road, until the intersection of Leeson Road in Charlton.
Due to the damage sustained to the van the driver stopped the vehicle and then tried to flee the area.
Nearby police officers returning to Caboolture noticed the damaged vehicle and arrested the man, who was taken to the Toowoomba Watchhouse, where he was charged and denied police bail to appear before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court this afternoon.
A 21-year-old St George man has been charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a
licence and fail to comply with duties of driver involved in a crash.
It will be alleged the Ford Falcon was stolen from a Drayton Road home in Harristown, prior to the crash.
