Carborough Downs fatality a blow to all coal miners

Union safety inspectors are on site at Carborough Downs mine after a tragic fatality occurred at the underground coal mine overnight.

CFMEU Mining and Energy Queensland President Stephen Smyth said news of the fatality was a blow to the whole mining community.

"We are devastated that another coal miner has not made it home to his family at the end of his shift," said Mr Smyth.

"On behalf of the Union, we extend our sincere condolences to loved ones and workmates.

"2019 has been a horror year for workplace deaths in our industry."

CFMEU Industry Safety and Health Representatives are on site at Carborough Downs to conduct their own investigation into circumstances surrounding the fatality.

"We will make sure no stone is left unturned in understanding what has occurred and how we can stop this happening again," said Mr Smyth.
