Carer Charged After Fatal Carramar House Fire

Homicide Squad detectives have charged a disability support worker over the death of a man following a house fire in Sydney's south west.

About 7.15am on Tuesday 13 April 2021, emergency services were called to River Avenue, Carramar, following reports of a house fire.

A male resident was pulled from the single-level home and treated for smoke inhalation.

A second male resident, aged 38, was removed from the building by staff members.

Officers from Fire & Rescue NSW and NSW Ambulance paramedics performed CPR; however, the man could not be revived.

State Crime Command's Homicide Squad with detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command established Strike Force Andretta to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.

Following extensive inquiries, about 8.50am yesterday (Tuesday 6 January 2026) a 27-year-old was arrested after attending Granville Police Station where he has since been charged with manslaughter.

Police will allege in court that the man was negligent in his role as a disability support worker, leaving the residents unsupervised.

The Carramar man was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 today (Wednesday 7 January 2026).
