Cast In Blue Damage

City of Mount Gambier is disappointed to report another incident of vandalism involving the Cast in Blue sculpture.

CCTV footage captured an individual affixing artificial eyes to the sculpture in the early hours of Sunday morning. This act constitutes vandalism under the law, and a formal police report has been lodged. An investigation is currently underway.

"This wilful damage to a valued public artwork is inappropriate and disrespectful," Mayor Lynette Martin said.

"It is not harmless fun, it is costly - it is also frustrating to those members of our community who have embraced Cast in Blue. Rectifying the damage will result in significant repair expenses, and Council remains committed to pursuing cost recovery from those responsible."

The extent of the damage is being assessed, and restoration will proceed as soon as practicably possible.
