Cat stabbed 20 times, woman charged - Dee Why

A woman has been held in police custody overnight after she allegedly stabbed her cat to death then threw it off a second-floor balcony at Dee Why.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to the home unit on Mooramba Road about 8.20am yesterday (Wednesday 23 October 2019), where they found the body of a cat.

Officers took the cat to a vet who examined the body and told police it had been stabbed 20 times.

Following inquiries, a 19-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for assessment.

She was released into police custody and was taken to Manly Police Station, where she was charged with torture, beat and cause death of animal, and commit an act of aggravated cruelty upon animal.

She has been bail refused to appear in Manly Local Court today (Thursday 24 October 2019).

A second cat has been retrieved by police from the home unit and placed in the care of the RSPCA.
