CCTV image released after knife attack at Fairfield

Police have released a CCTV image as they appeal for public assistance after a man was attacked with a knife in Sydney's south-west last night.

Just before 2am (Friday 27 December 2019), a 37-year-old man presented to Fairfield Police Station with serious injuries to his neck.

Police have been told the man was with friends near a shopping centre at The Crescent, Fairfield, before another man came up behind him and attacked him with a knife.

The 37-year-old man managed to fight him off before heading into the police station. He was then taken to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A crime scene was established and detectives from Fairfield City Police Area Command are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

As part of their inquiries, officers have released a CCTV image of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.

He has been described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, of a slim build, aged between 20 and 30, with short dark hair and a short dark beard.

He is depicted wearing a light grey jacket, dark pants and black shoes.
