CCTV images released and NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione appeals after Wall of Remembrance desecrated in Domain

NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione is making a personal plea to the community to help police find justice after the Wall of Remembrance in The Domain was desecrated yesterday, NSW Police say.

CCTV images have been released of a man police would like to speak to and Commissioner Scipione is urging anyone with information about that person to come forward.

The depicted man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, aged in his mid 20s, approximately 175cm-180cm tall, with a medium build and brown hair. He is shown wearing black clothing, black sneakers and carrying a skateboard at the time.

"The person who has done this knows who they are. I am appalled and saddened that the names of our state’s heroes have been desecrated," Commissioner Scipione said.

"There is no more important or sacred place in the country to the NSW Police Force, than this memorial."

As part of investigations that commenced about 4pm yesterday, after a man was seen by a member of the public defacing the memorial, further CCTV vision has been obtained, of a man, police believe may be able to assist with their inquiries.

"Family, friends and neighbours are urged to come forward and help identify the person in the CCTV images," Commissioner Scipione said.

Anyone who has information that may assist is urged to come forward and contact Sydney City Police Station on (02) 9265 6499 or Crime Stopers.
