Bayside resident Judy is proof that age is no barrier to living life to the fullest. The 101-year-old still lives in the community, keeps up with friends and is in contact with family. Judy credits her independence to a little help from council's aged care services, Bayside Care and Support.
Judy was among 10 inspiring Bayside centenarians we celebrated and acknowledged on the International Day of Older Persons. Impressively, seven of the centenarians, including Judy, continue to live independently with the help of the dedicated Bayside Care and Support team.
For the past 13 years, Judy has been a passionate advocate for our services which she credits for helping her stay healthy and happy. "We are fortunate that Council still handles aged care, when many Councils no longer do," Judy says. "I don't have family in Victoria, so I rely on Council for most things and they've been wonderful."
Getting consistent support Judy receives services especially designed to fit her lifestyle, including transport, cleaning, shopping assistance and shared cooking. She also received assistance with technology so she can stay connected to her family overseas through regular video calls.
Bayside Care and Support can help clients with a range of tasks including showering, cleaning, personal care, laundry, light gardening, and engaging specialists.
What Judy values the most is the genuine care she receives and the consistent support from our team. "The support workers look after you like family. Some have been with Council for 10, 15, even 20 years.
"That kind of dedication shows," she said. "They've kept me well, healthy, and on my toes. I'm so thankful. Their kindness and happiness make me a happier person."
