Cessnock Road is closed in both directions between New England Highway and Gillieston Road at South Maitland, due to a serious truck and pedestrian crash near Mount Dee Road.
Traffic in both directions can divert via Buchanan using New England Highway, Weakleys Drive, John Renshaw Drive and Hunter Expressway.
This diversion is suitable for all vehicles.
Motorists should exercise caution and allow extra travel time.
Traffic crews and emergency services are on scene.
Some buses travelling through the area will divert away from Cessnock Road.
