Control of Bindi is a challenge MidCoast Council is faced with each year as effective control hinges on perfect timing.
"Successful bindi control lies in applying selective herbicides before the weed sets seed," said Manager Park Operations, Jock Fraser.
This means treating turf areas as the weed begins to emerge but before flowering and seed development.
"This year, we have seen Bindi's pop-up much earlier than previous years" said Mr Fraser.
This paired with wet and windy conditions will see some areas fall outside of the optimum application period for control of Bindi.
Applying herbicide too late after seed heads have formed makes the treatment far less effective and allows the cycle to continue into the next season.
Although the sun is now shining, wind has hindered the application process.
Council is working through a priority list for treatment areas with dog parks, sporting fields and high use foreshore and beach areas at the top of the priority list for treatment.
