Charges follow assault and theft in Earlwood

Police have charged two men following inquiries into an alleged assault and stealing in Earlwood, NSW Police say.

About 5pm (Friday 9 February 2018), two men attended a liquor store on William Street where a number of items were stolen.

The manager of the shop confronted the men, aged 18 and 19. Both men ran from the area.

An altercation occurred between the store manager and the 18-year-old man near Marana Road. The manager was left with head injuries after being assaulted with a metal bar.

The 48-year-old was treated at the scene before being taken to St George Hospital with minor injuries.

Officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command commenced a search of the area and arrested an 18-year-old man near Clempton Park.

A 19-year-old man was arrested at a home in relation to the incident and taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with stealing.

The 18-year-old was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Both men were refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 10 February 2018).
