Charges following police incident in Surfers Paradise, QLD

A man has been charged following a police incident at a high rise apartment complex in Surfers Paradise this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged police were called to a unit complex on Hanlan Street just before 4pm following reports of a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm.

Police established a cordon around the address and evacuated nearby residents after receiving reports the man was inside an apartment with a woman and child.

It is further alleged the man climbed from the balcony of the apartment onto the ledge of the unit located below and damaged a window.

A 33-year-old woman and 4-year-old child were evacuated uninjured from the residence before police moved in and took the man into custody.

A number of replica firearms were allegedly located at the premises.

A 36-year-old Surfers Paradise man has been charged with unregulated high risk activity, wilful damage and contravene police banning notice and is due to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on March 26.

Investigations are continuing.
