Charges for Ravenhall landfill operator over licence breaches

EPA has laid eight charges against a company under the Environment Protection Act 1970 following a comprehensive investigation into licence breaches.

The company charged is Landfill Operations Pty Ltd, a division of the Cleanaway group of companies that operates the Melbourne Regional Landfill at Ravenhall.

The charges allege that the company failed to meet licence conditions including limiting the size of the tipping face and requiring all dumped waste to be covered with a layer of soil at the end of each day. The company have also been charged with failing to report the breaches to EPA Victoria.

The licence breaches are criminal offences under section 27 (2) of the Environment Protection Act 1970.
