The Northern Territory Police Force has charged a male youth in relation to a vehicle that was stolen in Alice Springs yesterday evening.
Around 6:40pm, it is alleged a Mitsubishi Eclipse was stolen from an address on Gap Road in Alice Springs. The vehicle was parked in the driveway, with a teenage girl waiting inside while her parent momentarily left, when a male youth allegedly entered the driver's seat. The girl exited the vehicle and alerted her parent, while the offender drove away in the vehicle.
An Operation Ludlow II patrol was nearby and witnessed the incident, and an additional police vehicle followed the stolen Mitsubishi. The vehicle was driven with the handbrake still on, causing damage to the road. It came to a halt a short distance away and the offender fled on foot but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit.
He has since been charged with Theft, Drive Motor Vehicle Without Consent, Drive Dangerous Manner, Damage Surface of a Road and Drive Unlicensed.
