Charges laid after man wields knife at teen in Parramatta

A man has been charged after allegedly wielding a knife at a 14-year-old boy at Parramatta today, NSW Police say.

Just before 6pm (Saturday 2 May 2018), officers from Parramatta Police Area Command were patrolling Fitzwilliam Street when they sighted the man allegedly holding a knife at the chest of the boy.

The officers approached the man and demanded he drop the knife several times.

The man refused and allegedly threatened the officers with the knife, who then stepped back and drew their police firearms.

The officers again demanded the man drop the knife, which he then complied.

The man was arrested and taken to Parramatta Police Station and charged with several offences:

- Armed with intent to commit indictable offence;

- Wield knife in public place; and

- Custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court tomorrow (Sunday 3 May 2018).
