Two teenagers have been charged following a confrontation with police in the state's Central West this morning, as a critical incident investigation continues.
Officers from Central West Police District attended Calarie Road, Forbes, shortly after 3am (Monday 27 December 2021), in pursuit of a utility which had been reported stolen.
At Daroobalgie Road, the utility stopped, and the driver exited the vehicle, pursued by police on foot.
At this time, a second vehicle allegedly drove at police before police discharged their firearm.
A 16-year-old boy suffered a wound to his left calf and was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition.
Two teens – aged 16 – were arrested at the scene and taken to Parkes Police Station.
Following inquiries, a fourth teen - aged 16 - was arrested at a home on Farnell Street about 12.30pm today. He was also taken to Parkes Police Station.
One was charged with destroy or damage property, two counts of intimidate police officer in execution of duty, and two counts of be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was refused bail to appear at a children's court tomorrow (Tuesday 28 December 2021).
A second was charged with take & drive conveyance without consent of owner, police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly, and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Tuesday 22 February 2022.
A third teen was released, pending further investigation.
A crime scene was established on Daroobalgie Road, which has been examined by specialist forensic officers.
A critical incident team from Orana Mid-West Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.
That investigation will be subject to independent review.
Daroobalgie Road remains closed and traffic diversions are in place.
