Charges laid following brawl, NSW

Two people have been charged following a large brawl in Surry Hills at the weekend., NSW Police say

About 8.30pm (Sunday 20 May 2018), police were called to Hill Street, after reports 15-20 people were fighting.

On arrival, a number of people ran from the location; however, a man allegedly jumped on the bonnet of a marked police vehicle and punched the windscreen, causing it to break.

With the assistance of further police, and the use of OC spray, the 27-year-old man was arrested.

A 26-year-old woman, who was allegedly attempting to intervene, started kicking and scratching police. She was also arrested.

The pair were taken to Surry Hills Police Station where the woman was charged with assault police. She appeared in Central Local Court yesterday (Monday 21 May 2018) and received a fine.

The man was transferred from the police station to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital due to his level of drug intoxication.

He was released from hospital yesterday and taken back to Surry Hills Police Station where he was charged with affray, assault police (x2), malicious damage, resist arrest (x3), intimidate police and offensive behaviour.

He was refused bail and will appear in Central Local Court today (22 May 2018).
