Two men have been charged after a pursuit that began in Queensland and ended near Tweed Heads, NSW Police say.
About 1.45pm on Tuesday 13 November 2018, NSW Police were advised by Queensland POLAIR that a red Volkswagen Golf they were monitoring was travelling south on the Pacific Highway toward the NSW border.
When the vehicle failed to stop for police after crossing the NSW border, officers attached to Tweed/Byron Highway Patrol joined the pursuit with Queensland Police vehicles.
After attempting to avoid a tyre deflation device deployed by police, the vehicle has lost control and came to a stop on the Pacific Highway at Tweed Heads.
Officers deployed capsicum spray when a 27-year-old man allegedly became aggressive toward police, before he and a 21-year-old man were arrested.
Police conducted a search of the 27-year-old man, locating a knife and a quantity of pills believed to be prescription painkillers, before also searching the vehicle and finding ammunition.
A female passenger was also removed from the vehicle. She is assisting Queensland Police with inquiries.
Both men were taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, before the older man was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment to minor injuries.
A 21-year-old man has been charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, never licensed person drive on road, use uninsured motor vehicle and use unregistered vehicle. He was refused bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Wednesday 14 November 2018.
A 27-year-old man was charged with resist officer in execution of duty, carry cutting weapon upon apprehension, and possess prohibited drug. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday 17 December 2018.
Queensland Police are continuing inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
