Charges laid following pursuit in Lurnea

A man has been charged following a pursuit at Lurnea overnight, NSW Police say.

About 7.45pm (Tuesday 20 February 2018), police from Liverpool City Police Area Command were patrolling Almalfi Park, Lurnea, following reports of a suspicious vehicle in the area.

The officers sighted a silver Ford Territory SUV in the car park and when they approached it, the vehicle drove off through the park onto Graham Avenue.

Officers followed the vehicle and a pursuit initiated when the driver failed to stop for police.

When the Ford turned into Supply Avenue, the driver lost control and crashed into a telegraph pole, which fell onto the boundary fence of a house.

The vehicle came to a stop and the driver was arrested. Subsequent inquiries revealed the vehicle had allegedly stolen numberplates and the driver was disqualified.

The area was cordoned off for a short time as the crash dislodged power lines across the road.

A 29-year-old man was taken to Liverpool police station charged with police pursuit – not stop (‘Skye’s Law’), drive while disqualified, goods in custody and an outstanding warrant.

He was refused bail to appear at Liverpool Local Court today (Wednesday 21 February 2018).
