Charges Laid In Relation To Devonport House Fire, TAS

Devonport CIB have today charged a 47-year-old man with one count of Arson in relation to a fire at an occupied Devonport unit on 4 August, Tasmania Police say.

The Tasman Street unit was destroyed causing $140,000 damage and has since been demolished.

The occupants’ belongings inside the unit were also destroyed valued at $10,000.

The man of no fixed address was known to the occupant of the residence and had moved to Tasmania approximately six months prior.

He appeared in the Devonport Magistrates Court today and was remanded in custody to re-appear on 23 August.
