Charges laid over attempted kidnaping in Ryde

A man will face court today after an alleged attempted kidnapping following aggravated break and enter in Sydney’s north-west in January.

Police will allege in court a man assaulted a 16-year-old boy who answered the door of a home on Farnell Street, West Ryde, just after 9.30am on Friday 5 January 2018, before forcing his way inside

Following a struggle, the boy broke free and ran from the house, alerting neighbours who contacted police, NSW Police say.

A crime scene was established and officers from Ryde Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

The boy was taken to Ryde Hospital and treated for minor injuries to his face.

Following inquiries, two search warrants were executed at homes in Burwood and Homebush today (Monday 26 March 2018).

Detectives arrested a 46-year-old man at a unit in Homebush West, about 8am today.


The man was taken to Ryde Police Station and charged with take/detain person with intent to obtain advantage and aggravated break and enter.


He was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court today (Monday 26 March 2018).
