Charges laid over police pursuit in stolen vehicle, NSW

Police have charged a man following a police pursuit on the state’s Mid North Coast yesterday, NSW Police say.

About 11.40am (Saturday 13 October 2018), police will allege a man crashed a Holden Commodore sedan, reported stolen from Queensland, on the M1 Pacific Highway at Bulahdelah.

The man allegedly then stole a Holden Commodore utility from a nearby carpark on Recovery Road and stopped at a service station on Wallanbah Road, Nabiac.

The man refilled the vehicle with petrol before allegedly leaving the service station without paying.

Officers from Manning/Great Lakes spotted the vehicle travelling north on the M1 Pacific Highway at Coopernook, allegedly driving in excess of 200km/h, and a police pursuit was initiated.

It was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the vehicle failed to negotiate a roundabout on Nancy Bird Walton Drive at Kew and crashed.

A 19-year-old man was arrested and taken to Port Macquarie Police Station where he was charged with nine offences, including:

  • receive property stolen outside NSW;
