Charges laid over police pursuits through Sydney's west, NSW

A man has been charged following a pursuit through Sydney’s west and south-west today, NSW Police say.

About 7.50am (Thursday 20 September 2018), police will allege a Toyota RAV 4 was speeding on Southee Road, Hobartville, and continued to travel up to 140km/hr through the Agnes Banks area.

A police pursuit was initiated; however, it was terminated due to safety reasons.

About 9.30am, the RAV 4 was allegedly driving in a dangerous manner on the Great Western Highway, Wentworth Falls, and another police pursuit was initiated; however, it was also terminated.

It will be alleged that, as the vehicle travelled through western Sydney and Sydney’s south-west, it collided with several cars and rammed a police car on Canterbury Road, Bankstown.

A 33-year-old man was arrested in Harp Street, Belmore, and taken to Campsie Police Station.

The P1 provisional driver allegedly failed a drug test.

The man was charged with Class A motor vehicle exceed speed > 45 km/h, not stop at/before stop line/stop sign, Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous (x3), police pursuit - not stop - drive recklessly (x2), use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow (Friday 21 September 2018).
