Charges over $1.6 million mortgage fraud, NSW

A man has been charged with two fraud offences involving the alleged fraud of almost $1.7million, NSW Police say.

In November 2015, the Gangs Squad’s Strike Force Raptor commenced an investigation into the activities of the Burwood Chapter of the Rebels OMCG and their associates.

As part of their ongoing inquiries, investigators identified suspected fraud offences by members of the group and conducted further investigations.

At 10am yesterday, today, a man presented himself to Parramatta Police Station and was arrested for his alleged role in defrauding a bank of more than $1.6 million, by applying and obtaining loans using falsified documents.

Police will allege that in 2014, the 29-year-old man, a Rebels OMCG member, applied for and obtained a loan of $688,000 using forged documents; in 2016, it's alleged he assisted another Rebels member in obtaining a loan of $960,000, by also using forged documents.

The man was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday 24 May 2017.

Inquiries are continuing.
