Charges over Blacktown tipper truck crash, NSW

A man has been charged following a fatal crash involving a tipper truck in western Sydney last month, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 7.30pm on Monday 13 August 2018, a 24-year-old woman was travelling east on the Great Western Highway in her Suzuki Swift when she came to a stop at the intersection of Flushcombe Road, Blacktown.

A Hino tipper truck, being driven by a 35-year-old man, was also travelling east on the Great Western Highway when he allegedly hit the rear of the stationary Suzuki.

The driver of the Swift suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Westmead Hospital where she died two days later (Wednesday 15 August 2018).

The driver of the tipper was taken to hospital for mandatory testing but was not injured.

Officers from the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit attended the scene and commenced an investigation into the crash.

Following inquiries, the 35-year-old man attended Bankstown Police Station yesterday (Tuesday 18 September 2018), and was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death – drive manner dangerous, negligent driving occasioning death, unlicensed for class – first offence, not give particulars to police and drive heavy not comply loading requirements – severe risk.

His licence was also suspended.

The man was granted bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 10 October 2018.
