Charges – Stealing – Fannie Bay

Northern Territory Police have charged a 21-year-old male in relation to an incident which occurred on 12 December 2018.

The male allegedly stole a mobile phone from the victim after arranging to meet him at the victim's residence on the premise that he would inspect the mobile phone for purchase.

He was arrested yesterday and charged with one count of stealing.

He was released on bail and is due to appear in Darwin Local Court on 22 January.

Senior Constable Kevin Carr said the meeting was arranged via a Facebook buy, swap and sell page.

"Police urge the public to be cautious when selling or purchasing goods through social media.

"Any suspect fraudulent activity detected on social media sites can be reported to the Australian Cybercrime Online Reporting Network ACORN http://www.acorn.gov.au," he said.

Police are still calling for potential witnesses to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in speaking to a passer-by who assisted the victim in looking for the offender.
