It is great to announce on behalf of Minister for Environment, Elise Archer, that a statewide public charging network for electric vehicles in Tasmania is one step closer with the opening of two grant programs totalling more than $450,000.
The Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants – Fast Charging, and Electric Vehicle ChargeSmart Grants – Destination Charging, are designed to support the installation of chargers.
With electric vehicle uptake on the rise, it's important Tasmania has the charging infrastructure in place to support local electric vehicle users and the growing number of visitors who travel across our regions.
That's why the Government is providing grants of up to $50,000 to organisations for fast charging stations to be used by the public, and further grants of up to $2,500 for organisations to install destination charging stations in Tasmania.
This commitment is to ensure Tasmania is prepared to capture the environmental, social and economic benefits that electric vehicles will bring.
ChargeSmart forms part of the Government's broader commitment under our $3 million Climate Action 21: Tasmania's Climate Change Action Plan 2017-2021 to support electric vehicle uptake in the state.
