Premier Steven Marshall has today confirmed that Mr Tony Harrison has stepped down as Chief Executive of the Department of Human Services (DHS) after years of service.
Mr Harrison was appointed as the Chief Executive of DHS in 2016 and since then has led the successful transition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, as well as leading reforms in child and family services, concessions and screening.
Beyond his position as Chief Executive of DHS, Mr Harrison has made a significant contribution in many areas as a long-term public servant, and has held the following roles;
- Chief Executive, Department for Education and Child Development;
- Director-General, Community Safety;
- Chief Executive of the South Australian Fire and Emergency Services Commission;
- Assistant Commissioner for South Australian Police.
Mr Harrison has also served as President of Minda Incorporated for 8 years.
The Premier has thanked Mr Harrison for his contribution over many years and wished him well for the future.
The government will shortly commence a process to seek a new Chief Executive to deliver the government's agenda in Human Services.
Mr Jim McDowell, the Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, will act as the Chief Executive of DHS in the interim.
