Chief Executive Update 24 September

MDBA

Hi everyone,

I hope you've all been enjoying the change of season around the Basin. Today I'm coming to you from the wonderful town of Mannum, South Australia on Nganguruku country, overlooking the magnificent Murray River as part of our tour of the Lower Murray region.

This week, we've been meeting with communities, First Nations peoples, farming groups, local councils, and environmental groups, to learn about what matters to them. We've been listening to how they've seen the Basin Plan working, what's not working, and what we might think about doing differently in the future. These conversations are a really important step as we look forward to the upcoming Basin Plan Review .

I'm lucky to be joined on this tour by a group of passionate people from the MDBA, as well as a bunch of our colleagues from other government water agencies who we are working closely with to support the health of the Basin.

In other news, this month we published important new research by La Trobe University that highlights First Nations peoples' experiences of change in the Murray-Darling Basin. The findings are presented as individual stories from 7 First Nations water advocates in different Basin communities.

You can also read about our new partnership with the World Bank , an exciting opportunity for us to share our knowledge and collaborate with other basin operators from around the world.

And finally, you can also catch up on our recent webinar that unpacked the key findings of the 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation and Sustainable Rivers Audit .

That's it for now. I'm off to see and hear more about what's happening in the Lower Murray. See you next month!
