Child Abuse Material Shown During Lecture

Melbourne Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Investigation Team (SOCIT) detectives have charged a 70-year-old man following a lengthy investigation.

Detectives will allege inappropriate images were inadvertently displayed during a university lecture in the CBD on Wednesday 5 February.

The matter was reported to police and an investigation commenced.

The 70-year-old man was interviewed following the execution of a warrant at a Middle Park address on Wednesday 12 February where multiple electronic items were seized.

Detectives also travelled to Sydney and executed a search warrant at a second property, with the assistance of New South Wales Police.

The search warrant was executed at the eastern suburbs home on 13 February.

Further electronic devices were located and the investigation into those devices remains ongoing.

The Middle Park man has been charged with one count of possess child abuse material (Commonwealth Offence) and two counts of possess child abuse material (Crimes Act)

He will appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 7 August.

Police aren't searching for anyone else in relation to this investigation.
