Child grooming arrest in Newcastle

Police have charged a man with a child grooming after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly approached for sexual activity at Newcastle on Friday, NSW Police say.

Between 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday 6 January 2017, the teenage girl was at a bus stop at Hunter Street, Newcastle, when she was approached by a man.

Police will allege the man made a number of comments to the girl before a taxi attended the location and they both entered the vehicle.

The girl instructed the taxi go to an address where she fled the vehicle and sought assistance, before police were contacted.

Following inquiries, a 47-year-old man was arrested at his home last night today and taken to Waratah Police Station.

He was charged with procure child under 14 for unlawful sexual activity and granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Friday 24 February 2017.
