Child seriously injured, Man arrested in Bankstown

A man has been arrested after an infant was hospitalised suffering serious injuries in Sydney’s south west yesterday

Shortly after 11pm (Saturday 7 April 2018), emergency services were called to a unit on DeWitt Street, Bankstown after reports an eighteen-month-old boy had been injured.

The child was treated by paramedics and taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where he was treated for head injuries. He remains in a serious condition.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad and officers from Bankstown Police Area Command have been investigating the incident.

About 9.10am today (Sunday 8 April 2018), a 20-year-old man was arrested by investigators at Bankstown Police Station, NSW Police say.

The man remains in custody.
