Council will permanently close Chittick Place, Seymour to vehicles at the intersection of Oak Street and Anzac Avenue from Tuesday 20 January as part of safety improvements at the busy intersection.
To prevent vehicle access into Chittick Place from the intersection, Council will extend the kerb and footpath along Oak Street. This change will significantly improve traffic safety in the area.
As part of the works, Council will also construct a dedicated vehicle turn-around area at the southern end of Chittick Place to accommodate cars and service vehicles. Chittick Place can, and will continue to be, accessed via Pollard Street.
These works come after feedback was received during the Anzac Avenue Master Plan community consultation that showed support for the project. They are funded by the Victorian Government's Safer Local Roads and Streets Program.
Works timeframe
Works will begin on Tuesday 20 January and are expected to take around eight weeks to complete, weather permitting.
What this means for you
During the works:
- Traffic management will be in place and access to Chittick Place will be via Pollard Street
- Some 90-degree parking at the southern end of Chittick Place will be unavailable during construction
- This parking will be permanently reduced following the works due to the new turn-around area
- Drivers should allow extra time and follow the directions of traffic controllers
- Pedestrian and vehicle access to nearby homes, businesses and surrounding streets will be maintained, though short delays may occur
Council thanks the community for their patience while these works are completed to make the area safer and easier for everyone to use.
