The City of Ryde stands in solidarity with the Jewish community following the deeply shocking and reprehensible terrorist attack that took place at Bondi Beach on Sunday 14 December 2025.

City of Ryde Mayor Trenton Brown said the proudly multicultural and inclusive Ryde community was committed to combating all forms of violence, hatred and extremism, including antisemitism.

"The loss of life that took place as members of Sydney's Jewish community celebrated the first day of Hanukkah at the Chanukah by the Sea Festival is unimaginable," he said.

"This was an event for families, including children and grandparents, a 'festival of lights'.

"Like all of you, I am deeply shocked and saddened by the events of 14 December and on behalf of the City of Ryde, I offer my empathy and support to the Jewish community during this incredibly difficult time.

"My thoughts are with those in our local community impacted by this senseless act."

Mayor Brown was one of 22 Sydney mayors who signed a joint statement on social cohesion in February 2025 as a response to an increasing incidence of antisemitic attacks across the city.

In the joint statement, the mayors pledged their commitment to, "being champions of social cohesion and using our leadership and knowledge to combat racism and promote community safety. Our communities deserve to live free from fear and hatred and we will work together to uphold these values and advocate for the support needed to achieve them".

"I was proud to put my name to this important document," Mayor Brown said.

"Today, we all stand together in condemning the cowardly terrorist attack at Bondi Beach and we will strengthen our efforts to ensure that the power of unity and inclusiveness triumphs over senseless violence and hatred."
