Clubs Score Funding For Grassroots Sport

SA Gov

Two major grant programs supporting South Australian sport and active recreation clubs are now open, with a pool of more than $7 million available to get communities active and upgrade facilities across the state.

Recipients of the Government initiatives – the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program (CRSFP) and Active Club Program (ACP) – will use funding allocated to build new infrastructure and help clubs grow and expand their impact.

Over $5.7 million is on offer through the latest round of the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program, which continues to help organisations deliver inclusive and fit-for-purpose facilities.

Clubs can apply for up to $750,000 to cover significant project costs like upgrading clubrooms, creating accessible playing fields, improving lighting and installing new irrigation systems.

Two-out-of-three recipients in the previous CRSFP round were based in greater metropolitan and regional areas, demonstrating the program's wider benefits.

Parndana Sports Club used their nearly $50,000 grant to resurface three multi-use courts, enabling the club to increase its membership and attract more events.

A further $1.3 million is available under the Active Club Program, set to support hundreds of clubs with the programs and services they provide to their communities.

Drought-affected clubs are encouraged to apply after the Malinauskas Government introduced new measures as part of the program, including water-saving and energy efficient initiatives as well as whitegoods to help reduce operating costs.

Grants up to $3,000 can also be used to invest in equipment, uniforms and professional development, along with period products and menstrual health training – tearing down barriers to female participation and helping girls thrive in sport.

Recreational fishing clubs will share in a stream of $200,000 as part of the ACP, building on the Government's support to fishers during the unprecedented algal bloom.

Both grant programs align with key objectives outlined in the recently released 2025 - 2030 Recreation, Sport and Racing Strategic Plan.

Applications for the CRSFP and ACP close in early October. For more information and to apply, visit orsr.sa.gov.au/grants.

Our clubs, organisations and regional hubs do an incredible job keeping their communities active and we want this to continue and expand.

Supporting programs that inspire young athletes and providing new and upgraded infrastructure helps create welcoming spaces where South Australians can participate and feel a sense of belonging.

These grants are an important part of our commitment to see less screen time and more young people take to the field, court or pool.

We have extended this support to clubs hit hard by drought and continue to back the state's recreational fishers to engage in a healthy activity.

Sporting clubs and communities have the power to create a 'home away from home' for our kids.

These grant programs will support sporting communities to expand their facilities and programs, where young people can develop – both in their sport and self-confidence – in a safe and positive place.

We are committed to getting our kids off screens and into their community, and these programs assist clubs in creating opportunities for young people to get involved and develop that lifelong love of sport.

The addition of the three multi-use courts, funded in part through the Community Recreation and Sport Facilities Program, has provided a safe, modern, and versatile space that supports a wide range of sports and recreational activities year-round.

For the community, the courts have created more opportunities for people of all ages to participate in sport, improve health and wellbeing, and build stronger social connections. They have also enabled greater inclusion, with the facility being used by schools, junior development programs, and social competitions.

For the Parndana Sports Club, the courts have strengthened our ability to host competitions and training, attract new members, and support multiple sports. This has enhanced our capacity to generate revenue, sustain volunteer involvement, and ensure the long-term viability of the Club as a hub for sport and community activity on Kangaroo Island.
