No new applications will be accepted.
CMS announces that it will not be accepting any new applications for the Accelerated/Advance Payment (AAP) Program and will be reevaluating all pending applications under the program.
CMS had originally expanded the temporary loan programs to ensure providers and suppliers had the resources needed to combat the beginning stages of COVID-19. The winding down of the AAP program follows the payment of over $100 billion to health care providers and suppliers through the CARES Act and the $175 billion recently appropriated for health care provider relief payments. CMS declared that additional funding will continue through other programs including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) Provider Relief Fund.
CMS did not change the terms of the program for providers who already received an advance or acceleration payment — providers should expect to repay the Medicare program according to the original terms.
Since expanding the AAP program on March 28 for Part B suppliers — including doctors, non-physician practitioners and durable medical equipment suppliers — CMS approved almost 24,000 applications advancing $40.4 billion in payments. Funding will continue to be available to health care providers on the front lines of the coronavirus response primarily from the Provider Relief Fund.
