Colac Otway Shire will honour its 2026 Community Award winners at the Australia Day celebration at Cressy Aerodrome.

Mayor Jason Schram said many deserving community members were nominated across the four Community Award categories.

"As Councillors, we're honoured to recognise and celebrate Colac Otway residents through the Community Awards program for their outstanding contributions to our Shire," he said.

The 2026 Award Categories feature:

Citizen of the Year – Local Impact Award

Celebrating people who lead with heart and create lasting change in their community.

Young Citizen of the Year – Rising Star Award

Recognising young trailblazers shaping the future of Colac Otway.

Community Service Leader – Helping Hands Award

Honouring people who uplift others through dedication and grassroots leadership.

Creative and Active Contribution Award – Culture & Connection Award (new)

For individuals and groups who energise community life through creativity, sport, and cultural engagement.

Community Award winners were endorsed at the December Council meeting and will be formally announced and recognised at the Australia Day celebration at Cressy Aerodrome on 26 January 2026.

"The Colac Otway community support each other, in varying ways, in good times and bad - often not wanting applause or a pat on the back.

"It's great to be able to recognise our deserving Community Award recipients and celebrate them for the outstanding work they do in our shire.

"We encourage you to come along to Cressy Aerodrome on Australia Day to celebrate our Community Award winners and welcome new Australian citizens to Colac Otway at the Citizenship Ceremony. Both wonderful celebrations that will be a part of a great local event," Cr Schram said.
